BACHCELONA, a new initiative born in Barcelona with the aim of offering a series of
activities and concerts linked to the figure of Bach, will be launched, in its second edition, on July 2014. The festival will be hosted in emblematic sites of the city - such as the Cathedral and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar - during July 20-27, the closing day almost coinciding with the annual commemoration of J. S. Bach’s death.

BACHCELONA Festival’s original aim is to further enrich an already existing project in
Barcelona: BACH ZUM MITSINGEN. This project performs, since April 2011, the complete cycle of J.S. Bach cantatas in participatory sharing sessions, an unprecedented initiative in Barcelona and Catalunya addressed to singers with musical and choral education. The project is notable for respecting the date for which Bach wrote the cantatas, performing each cantata on its relevant liturgical date. Moreover, the instruments used are Baroque instruments and the interpretation follows historic criteria.

Cantatas are always held in emblematic churches such as the Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar or Girona's Cathedral, and within different frameworks such as the Toulouse Bach Festival. For further information about the project, please visit our website at:

The activities we propose within the framework of BACHCELONA wish to go beyond the
concert form. Our aim is to foster always the experience-side, the interaction, the dissemination and the most unexpected and ludic aspects of J.S. Bach’s music in each one of these activities.
